What does the good life really mean? What do we really need to be happy?
and a moment of zen video, because we have enough quiet to share... We have set out to conduct an experiment that seeks to answer the question: what does a intelligent, professional couple really need to live a full life? How much of the limited available resources are truly necessary to live a rich, fulfilling and luxurious life? (Exploring the differences in how cultures and individuals define those terms......just sayin) How can one tread lightly on the earth, especially in this highly globalized, consumptive economic model? And, most importantly, what amazing things are regular people doing across the planet that gives us hope and inspiration to fuel our next 50 years aboard our new home, s/v Eos? How their stories have inspired our own journey to disconnect from the matrix and reconnect? Named after the Greek Goddess of the Dawn, s/v Eos represents the hope of a new day. She represents the opportunity to begin again and do better than the day before, to be open to the magic that is life, the opportunity to choose to live by your ideals and support others in the world who are your tribe. Best part is, you get to define who is in your tribe. Family by choice, we say. So who is your tribe? There is no wrong answer here, just the truth in your heart, perhaps hidden behind walls built to protect you from hate, pain and/or apathy. Do you know? Do you want to know?? Well, our tribe, found all over the world, represents all different colors, races, sexual orientations, religions and opinions. So what makes us tribe? What makes us family no matter how far away or how long it's been since we connected? Unconditional love, compassion, grace and the indomitable human spirit. A life focused on the journey, the meaning and the magic of it all, even in the most challenging of times. Inspiring in ourselves, and hopefully others, the spirit of creativity, communication, community and adaptation through everyday actions. So now, after our long overdue honeymoon, we will be writing about what we have learned over the past 20 years about this world we live in, both the world of man and the world of nature. We will discuss the clashes we see, inside ourselves and between one another, and show you some of the most amazing everyday people who are doing something about it.

"Dear Friends, As February 2020 opens, more than a billion people are huddling in their homes, uncertain of their collective fate. In walled off cities resulting from a general quarantine, the Chinese are being denied access to their greatest strength, each other. And there is no timeline... I started Sylvester, Xu & Associates 18 years ago on the idea that, in a rapidly developing country the rules would be more important, not less. Some guidelines would be necessary to control the chaos. And there would be a need to teach all those lawyers. And as a general matter, when countries join the UN and sign all those environmental and human rights treaties, all that new stuff becomes law. In this case, it was China during a cultural and social revolution. And as an academic of the law of those social changes, a third of my life passed from within Mainland China, trying to make as much sense of it as I could. Then to share what I learn as we go. So, I have been a kid in a candy store for a very long time. Yet, after 15 years of 'living in a concrete box in the sky' as anyone who has ever lived in a high rise understands, it was time to experience nature again. So, my wife and I are scouting documentary film locations for a series of nature films for Chinese children. In the meantime, our civilisation is having a conversation with itself. In response, Ella is opening our doors to assist in any way we can. She has been running my business for a very long time and I trust her judgement as much as I do my own. She is the future. Building China. Supporting Civil Society. Right now... Eos is our home. At the moment, we are in Mexico at the top of the Sea of Cortez. We came here to prepare Eos for a Pacific crossing and more with the idea of giving our 50's to the sea. This transition to a tiny, minimalist life after decades of an international expat executive life has not been the easiest of turns to negotiate on the road of life... Yet, I would not trade it for the world. Why? Well, there is no more fun way to live that I know of. And there is no other self-sufficient, autonomous way to travel to the most remote reaches on earth - and back. That, and for most of my life -- if I could not find a job doing what I wanted -- I would start a company and hire myself. How else are you going to get your dream job? It also eliminates arguments with your boss...unless you talk to yourself. Eos.earth is our company. We promote minimalism, tiny living and hope. Our job titles - you know the ones we hired ourselves for - is explorer in residence. We hope to discuss what is really going on out there and to share what we find. So far, we have seen more hope and optimism than anything else. M |
